SHARING IS CARING...!!!

Updated: Jan 22, 2021

Cold shouts, foggy breathes.
Freezing fingers, numbing thoughts!
Some shop for the warmest of coats, others just have lingering thoughts
How would a warm shoe feel?

A mother and her child trying on new shoes. A still from winter shoe drive. Where new shoes were distributed.

The thought of being without shoes in the crippling cold sends a shiver down the spine but some…. some don’t have the privilege of feeling the warmth. It is said that superficial stuff doesn’t usually matter to a kid with limited resources it is the consistency that matters, sense of security, the emotional support but all these are textbook talks, in a night with a cold that could make one shiver to their bones, emotional support is not anyone will look for. A pair of fuzzy socks, a shoe to fit one’s size. The snug feeling of warmth is what will get us through the night.

This feeling was realized by us and the thought of what can we do keep pondering on us, what to do, how to do, what to manage the worst…. how to get to the people who deserve it most.

After a lot of brainstorming sessions, we decided to conduct a shoe drive. It was done in three parts in three different areas. The shoe size was suitable for kids of various ages, ranging from 1 year old to 7 years old.

Various areas were covered under this endeavor especially two areas mainly while others where ever someone in need were seen help was given. EWS society and the slum near Homeland Mohali were the main focus of the drive.

We knew that just distribution and providing them to the people who need it the most wasn’t the only concern, we had to make sure the pair of shoes given was the exact match for the kid’s foot.

Who better to tell us than the first person at the scene?

A still of children watching in awe with the gifts of new shoes as part of winter shoe drive.

Ketan Jindal, an IT professional. On being asked what inspired him to take part in this attempt of giving all that the universe has given us. He said,” we are so gifted and privileged to wear branded clothes and extra cushiony shoes that it almost makes me feel guilty. So, it is just a way for me to give back.” Narrating an incident from a slum area around Homeland Mohali, there was this one kid with special needs when the shoes were given to his caretaker, the bounds of happiness could not be defined in their eyes. He just wishes, they had more to give and more variety in sizes.

When the hardship takes away the childhood and innocence are robbed off.

Talking to Mohit Sharma, a Medical Scribe said that the excitement in the eyes, the happiness of having something brand new, something which is going to help them out in this weather just wished there were more variety of sizes to give…One incident which touched his heart was when a little girl was driving her little sister in a tricycle the moment their sizes matched the shoes, my god the happiness was beyond words.! Having done various deeds on the individual level he just knows it’s a team effort always otherwise it will just be a humongous task!

A still containing photos of all the shoes that were bought. After a serious of quality checks and making sure that none of the defect pieces were there.

A total of 40 pairs of brand-new shoes were selected, purchased, and checked before being distributed through the funds which came from everyone’s monthly contribution. Life would be a hell lot easier if we just noticed the few things, the few things which will make up the entire world for someone

We go camping, we willingly stay in tents, we willingly tend to leave a few facilities just for the thrill of it, but imagine having to struggle against the changing weather, the scorching heat to bone-chilling winds.

Gives us goosebumps don’t they!

We don’t need to give a lot, a little by little, sharing the gifts we have, the privileges we have, no one will have to struggle and face the obstacles thinking that there is no way out!

REACHING MILES BY SPREADING SMILES.!
